Prey helped to revitalize the franchise, and Prey 2 is perhaps the most in-demand Predator sequel in decades. The first Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, became a hit in 1987, but various attempts at a sequel, reboot, and even a spinoff off with Alien vs Predator failed to live up to the original.
However, Prey and star Amber Midthunder managed to take the franchise back to its roots with a simple yet thrilling action story with a determined hero taking on the deadly alien Predator — refreshed by mashing the sci-fi horror with period drama aesthetics. Helmed by director Dan Trachtenberg, Prey acts as a prequel taking place well ahead of the other films in the Predator series with its setting in 1719.

It follows Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young Comanche woman who aspires to become a hunter. Naru and her people soon come to realize that there is another powerful presence in the forest that poses a far greater danger than the bears and wolves they usually hunt. With a franchise that has lasted as long as Predator has, the new life Prey has given it begs the question of where Prey 2 could take the story — but the desire for the next chapter among viewers is impossible to deny.
