The Notebook 2025: A Love Rewritten

A timeless love story returns. This summer, two decades after The Notebook first captured hearts worldwide, the beloved romance is reimagined for a new generation with The Notebook: A Love Rewritten.
Old Vs New!

Anchored by Academy Award® nominee Florence Pugh (Little Women, Oppenheimer) and rising star Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People), this emotionally charged new chapter revisits the enduring themes of love, memory, and second chances. Directed by visionary filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Barbie, Lady Bird), the film brings a fresh perspective to the classic tale while honoring the heart and soul of Nicholas Sparks’ original story.

Set in the present day, The Notebook: A Love Rewritten follows the lives of two star-crossed lovers, Emma and Noah, who are reunited after years apart when Emma discovers a mysterious notebook in her late grandmother’s belongings. The notebook, filled with letters and sketches, reveals a love story that mirrors her own, inspiring her to confront the choices that led her and Noah down separate paths. As the two reconnect, they must navigate the complexities of their past while deciding if their love is strong enough to rewrite their future.

Pugh delivers a powerful performance as Emma, a fiercely independent artist grappling with the weight of her family’s legacy, while Mescal brings depth and vulnerability to Noah, a small-town musician haunted by the love he lost. The film also stars Emmy winner Sarah Snook (Succession) as Emma’s older sister, who harbors secrets of her own, and Golden Globe nominee Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) as Noah’s mentor and confidant.

The supporting cast includes breakout star Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) as Emma’s best friend, and veteran actor Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) as the enigmatic author of the notebook, whose story becomes the key to unlocking Emma and Noah’s future.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, The Notebook: A Love Rewritten is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant film that blends the nostalgic charm of the original with a modern cinematic aesthetic. Gerwig’s signature style shines through in the film’s intimate character moments and sweeping romantic visuals, from rain-soaked reunions to golden sunsets over a serene lakeside setting.

The screenplay, penned by Academy Award® winner Sarah Polley (Women Talking), breathes new life into Sparks’ timeless themes, exploring the power of memory, the resilience of love, and the courage it takes to start over. The film’s lush cinematography, helmed by Oscar®-winning director of photography Linus Sandgren (La La Land), captures the beauty and emotional depth of the story, while an evocative score by composer Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel) underscores the film’s most poignant moments.

Produced by Sparks himself alongside Oscar®-winning producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff (Joker), The Notebook: A Love Rewritten is a celebration of love in all its forms. With its all-star cast, masterful direction, and heartfelt storytelling, the film promises to captivate audiences both old and new.

The Notebook: A Love Rewritten opens in theaters nationwide on July 18, 2025. Prepare to fall in love all over again.
